Idella dearly loved all her family. When she had the chance, she would take vacation with them. Her son, Randy and wife, Dawn, took her and Laverne on motorhome trips to Branson, where they enjoyed many shows, and she ate catfish for almost every meal.
Idella, also traveled with her daughter Vicki and her husband, Dave. She particularly loved the time she went to Deadwood, S.D., where she played some of the slot machines and had many great meals. She enjoyed sightseeing the surrounding areas. On one outing, a GIGANTIC BUG attached itself to Dave’s big toe. No matter what he did, kicking and shaking his foot, that thing wouldn’t budge. After some time, you can imagine, we were starting to draw a crowd. It was the funniest thing ever. Finally, the thing had to be swatted to get him off. We had many great laughs over the years remembering that incident.
Idella also loved her one and only granddaughter, Jamie. She loved spending time with her, sitting side by side on the couch late at night watching MASH and drinking chocolate frosty’s from Wendy’s. She was very proud of the young woman she became.
In the early 70’s Idella and Laverne rented a small cabin at Deckers, Co.; Idella loved spending time there and hiking the mountains with her friends. Laverne spent most of his time fishing the Platte River, that was like his little bit of Heaven on earth. He pulled many rainbow trout out of that river, and Idella would fry them up. They attended many potlucks at Deckers, Idella was known for her delicious potato salad and fried chicken.
At home, Idella was a wonderful homemaker, she always wanted it known that she fixed 3 square meals a day for her family. Even if that might include a donut or two for breakfast. One of her specialties was her oxtail soup. Anyone that tried it, loved it. Idella and Laverne had a Christmas tradition of fixing cashew brittle. Family and friends always requested it and so they would need to fix huge batches of the brittle. When the stove heated up and the stirring began, they meant business, you better not interrupt them.
Idella worked as a L.P.T. (Licensed Psychiatric technician) in the mental health field at Brady’s Hospital. She loved taking care of the patients, she had a true compassion for their sufferings. The patients sensed that and loved her. Some of the female patients even offered to take her along on a cruise after they were discharged but she politely declined.
Idella and Laverne lived with her daughter, Vicki, and son-in-law Dave for many years, where Laverne still resides.
Idella is survived by her always loving and devoted husband, Laverne; daughter, Vicki/David son, Randy/Dawn and one granddaughter, Jamie/Nate, and four great-grandchildren, Collin, Carson, Aedan and Ryanne.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis, and Georgia Blanton, two brothers, Willis Blanton jr. and Art Blanton. Family is grateful for the care she received from Pikes Peak Hospice. Now Idella is with her loving Savior, Jesus Christ.
