John entered the United States Army in 1948, met and married the love of his life, Elisabeth Schmid in Augsburg, Germany. John returned to civilian life for six years, but realized his Army life was missing. He enjoyed a rewarding career in the Supply field, retiring as a Sergeant First Class in 1974, at Fort Carson, Colorado. In addition to his stateside assignments, his many tours took him to Germany, Greenland and the Republic of Vietnam.
After retirement, Liz and John managed one of top 7-11 stores in Colorado Springs. They achieved many awards and recognition for their management of this facility. Additionally, John drove part time for 15 years as a shuttle driver for AVIS. John and Liz found a real love of Las Vegas and would visit often over the years. When at home he could be found working on his many crossword puzzles or just listening to either his Country or German music.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his late wife of 62 years, Elisabeth.
He is survived by a son, Eric and his family of Georgia
