John E. Hill, Jr., "Chip" was born January 12, 1933 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to John E. Hill, Sr. and Frances Altman Hall Hill. He departed this world on May 28, 2019 in Colorado Springs. He was the eldest of three sons with his brothers, Bill and Jack predeceasing him. He attended Central High School in Chattanooga and the University of Chattanooga, then the University of Tennessee - Memphis College of Medicine. He was a cardiologist. He married Brenda Brandt Goerdel on February 8, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingsport, Tennessee and they made their first home in Denver while Chip served at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. His beloved wife, Brenda passed away in 2001. He is survived by six grandchildren, his four sons and two daughters-in-law, John E. Hill, III "Trey" and Ross Ann Hill of Idalou,
Texas; Karl Goerdel Hill of Monument, Colorado; Kevin Michael O'Malley Hill and Beata Danielewska Hill of Highland Village, Texas and Robert Douglas Hill of Lubbock, Texas. Chip was in the U.S. Army for many years and was honorably discharged at the rank of colonel before entering private practice of medicine in El Paso, Texas. He was active in civic organizations in El Paso while residing in El Paso. After many years of private practice, Chip joined the faculty of Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Amarillo, Texas, followed by entry into the U.S. Air Force as a colonel. He was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Ft.
Worth, Texas, before coming to the U.S. Air Force Academy. After retirement from the Air Force, he served as a physician with the Veterans' Administration in Cheyenne, Wyoming and also Denver, Colorado. He wrote and presented numerous papers and publications in his career. Chip was a faithful Episcopalian and attended his beloved Grace and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Colorado Springs since 1992, where he served as chalice bearer as well as on vestry. He very much enjoyed traveling and was so very proud of his six grandchildren: Brenda, Sarah, Emily, Riley, Carter and Easton, all of Texas.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Grace and St. Stephen's Episcopal
Church, 601-631 N. Tejon St., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
