He was born in Alamosa, Colorado on July 30, 1924 to Augustin and Selfa (Cisneros) Ruybal, Sr.
In 1942 Gus joined the U.S. Navy during WWII and served with the Seabees in the South Pacific. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1986, with 36 years of service.
Gus spent most of his working career as a Special Equipments Mechanic, Civil Service at U.S. A.F. Peterson Field, Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was particularly skillful with flightline firetrucks knowledge and maintenance.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lora, of 73 years and his children Louis Ruybal, Sylvia J. Ruybal (Mike Earl) Roxanne N. Smith and Leonard M. Ruybal and his grandsons Russell M. Smith III and Adam I. Smith (K.T.) great-grandchildren Xavier P. (Smith) Medina and Zoe M. and Parker J. Smith. Also surviving are his brother and five sisters as well as several nieces and nephews. Gus was preceded in death by his mother Selfa (Cisneros) Ruybal and father Augustin Ruybal, Sr. and one brother and four sisters and recently sister-in-law Marvine Martinez.
Gus loved spending time with his family, especially tending his garden, going camping, fishing and working on cars. He had a wonderful sense of humor, quick wit and creative one-liners. He will always be remembered by the care he showed, the comfort he shared and the love he brought to our lives. Gus will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 2, 2020 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Swan-Law Funeral Directors.
A Mass of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, 11:00 AM at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5354 U.S Hwy 85/87, Security, Colorado. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
