On Monday, December 7, 2020, Judith Ann Burnside finished her race and received the ultimate prize. She stepped into the presence of the Lord at age 77, after a battle with COVID 19. Judith was at home listening to the joyful sounds of her family, gathered outside her window. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend.
Judith was born in Colorado Springs, CO on August 8, 1943, to Adolph and Bessie Englert. She attended elementary and high school in Colorado Springs. She learned at a very young age to overcome adversity. Judith became a wonderful caregiver and developed a strong work ethic.
On January 27, 1961, Judith married Bryon F. McAfee. To that union were born Tammy S. Campbell, William D. McAfee (Bill), and Susan A. McAfee-Acre (Sam). She gained a wonderful extended family from this marriage, that taught her about unconditional love—a union that influenced her throughout her life. Bryon preceded her in death.
Judith was married to James E. Burnside on June 1, 1972. She gained a bonus son, Stephen J. Burnside, and a life of adventure. This included: ranching, jeep racing, traveling, and raising kids in the Ellicott community. Together, the couple hosted many events at their home which included food and fun. No one visited her home without being offered food or a drink, even delivery truck drivers. She loved to cook and would bless those experiencing grief or sickness with food. In later years, when she wasn’t able to deliver food, she would prepare it and find someone to deliver it for her. Caring for others and looking out for her children and grandchildren was what she continued to do even to the last day of her life. She was a member of Pikes Peak Cattlewomen and attended Austin Bluffs Community Church.
Judith is preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Bessie Englert and Carl and Eunice McAfee; brothers, James Allen Englert and Edward E. Englert; first husband, Byron F. McAfee; second husband, James E. Burnside; and son, Stephen J. Burnside.
Judith is survived by sister-in-law, Patricia Alward; sister, Catherine Crane; daughter-in-law, Carol Burnside; daughter, Tammy Campbell and her husband, Ross; son, William McAfee and his wife, Ronda; daughter, Susan Ann McAfee-Acre; grandchildren: Derek Burnside, Chad Burnside, Kristin Piano, Kimberly Bianchini, Benjamin Campbell, Shawn McAfee, Kenzie McAfee, and Cody Acre; great grandchildren: Preston Burnside, Brock Burnside, Brody Burnside, Logan Piano, Raegan Burnside, Mariana Bianchini, Levi Piano, Bron Burnside, Antonio Bianchini, and Luca Bianchini; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
