Born on September 30, 1945, in Freeport, New York, Judith—lovingly known as Judy—was the daughter of Leonard J. Diehl and Ann R. Diehl (formerly McNally) and the younger sister of the late Valerie Maggiani. Judy’s early years were shaped by the beauty of Long Island’s Atlantic coastline, where she was raised by her grandmother, Elsie Diehl. Judy carried her grandmother's wisdom and love throughout her life.
After attending Freeport High School, Judy married Bill Park Jr. and eventually settled in San Diego, California, where she raised their three sons—William Park III, Kenneth Park, and Michael Park. In the 1980s and 1990s, Judy enjoyed a successful career at Postal Annex Plus as a franchise training and support manager. Living near the Pacific Ocean, she developed a passion for yoga, running along the coast, and rollerblading at Mission Beach. Judy was also an active member of the Unity spiritual community, which supported her through life’s biggest challenges.
In the 2000s, Judy moved to Reedsport, Oregon, to care for her uncle, Charlie Diehl. During this time, she met her late husband, Daniel Handran, a soft-spoken and kind-hearted cowboy from Montana. Judy, who always saw herself as a cowgirl at heart, found a perfect match in Dan. Together, they built a peaceful life in Coquille, Oregon, where they kept horses and enjoyed their tranquil home until Dan's passing in 2014.
After Dan’s death, Judy relocated to the Front Range of the Rockies in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to be closer to her youngest son, Michael, and his family. In her final decade, Judy cherished her role as a devoted grandmother, affectionately known as "Nan." Whether waiting in school pickup lines or traveling back to Long Island for holidays and special occasions, Judy found immense joy in supporting her grandchildren. She often said that being a grandmother was the most fulfilling role of her life. Judy will be remembered for the peace and love she cultivated with her family, friends, and pets.
Judy is survived by her sons, William, Kenneth, and Michael; daughters-in-law, Jinnette and Miyo; her grandchildren, Samantha, Harrison, Hayden, Laurel, and Olive; and her great-grandson, Reece. She is also survived by her daughter, Annette, and family; her nephew, Tom; and her cousin, Sandy.
An intimate celebration of Judy’s life is planned for next spring. As per her wishes, her ashes will be scattered in cherished places meaningful to her sons and their families.
We honor our mother with words from one of her favorite authors, Marianne Williamson: “We release what was and make room for what shall be, as we testify within our minds that life does not end but merely transmutes, that today we say good-bye to the physical focus of our relationship, and greet the relationship with the soul that now begins anew.”
