On April 11, 2019, Colorado Springs lost a well-known and beloved friend, Kyle Whitney. A lifelong resident of Colorado Springs and an accomplished construction project manger, Kyle died at home with his family present.
Born on July 6th, 1974, Kyle graduated from Palmer High School in 1992. Kyle attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA where he completed his bachelor’s degree.
Mara Groninger was the love of Kyle’s life and they married in May 2007, welcoming their son Turner in June 2008. Kyle truly came into his own as a father. He was Turner’s greatest fan and most ardent supporter.
In July 2018, Kyle was diagnosed with a rare gastric cancer, a diagnosis he fought valiantly. He made sure every last minute with his family and friends was well spent. Cancer never beat Kyle.
Kyle is survived by his wife Mara, son Turner, stepson Gannon; parents, Craig and Penny Whitney; and his beloved siblings, Kara Carroll (husband Sean), Grant (wife Stephanie), Chase and Paige.
A celebration of Kyle’s life will take place at 1:00 p.m., May the 4th at Grace Episcopal Church, 601 N. Tejon Street in Colorado Springs. A reception at Johnny’s Navajo Hogan will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the following: the Trails and Open Space Coalition, the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region or the Cornell College Annual Fund.
