Larry Jesse, 72, passed away on Friday, Feb 16th, 2018 at Sundance Skilled Nursing Home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Larry was a Colorado native, born on May 22nd, 1945 in Denver to parents Howard and Velma Jesse. He attended North High School in Denver where he was an All-City wrestler and starred on the North High baseball team.
During and after high school, Larry worked various jobs and careers in the Denver area, starting as a young man pumping gas and changing oil at the Texaco Station on 44th and Newton, which was owned by his father and mother. Later jobs included working his way up to manager at McDonalds, summers at Elitch Gardens and then a night job at the Denver Mint. Larry eventually settled down in the Lakewood area to start a family, where he worked for the Martin Marietta Corp, and ICX Trucking.
Mr. Jesse left Denver in 1976 to open a Baskin-Robbins franchise in the Widefield suburb of Colorado Springs and eventually owned a second Baskin-Robbins in Colorado Springs. After several years in Colorado Springs, an extended illness compelled Mr. Jesse to return to his home turf in the Denver metropolitan area in the mid 1980’s.
A passionate football fan and season ticket holder for the Denver Broncos, Larry remained a loyal Broncos fan his entire life, proudly cheering for his home teams, including the Broncos, the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Rockies. Mr. Jesse enjoyed fishing, driving his classics (’56 Chevy and 64 Ford Mustang), coin collecting, playing cards, listening to music and breaking clocks at various ‘auspicious’ times.
The oldest of 4 siblings, Larry is survived by two sisters: Pam Ewing (husband Jim) of Arvada, Colorado, and Sharon Marchitti (husband John) of Las Vegas, NV. Larry is also survived by his brother Gail Jesse (wife Mary) of Westminster, Colorado.
In addition, Larry is survived by 3 sons and 8 Grandchildren: – son Jay Jesse and wife Lisa, (children Ryan and Taylor), son Scott Jesse and wife Tricia, (children Erica, Amanda and Mitchell) and son Steve Jesse (children Cameron, Trevor and Garrett). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his father Howard, a WWII Veteran who passed in 1990, and his mother Velma, who passed just 2 months prior to Larry, in December 2017.
Services will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 11 AM at the Pavilion of Reflection, Olinger’s Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033
