Larry is survived by a brother, Alexander Wiatrak, a son, Scott Wiatrak of Denver; a daughter, Kristen Weigel & husband Travis of Colorado Springs; 3 beloved grandchildren Jordyn, Blake and Tyler. He is preceded in death by his parents Alexander Wiatrak & Jane (Sobolewski) Wiatrak and sister Valerie (Wiatrak) Blomgren and brother Robert Wiatrak.
Larry was born and raised in New Haven, CT and graduated from Hamden High School. After marrying, he moved to Cheshire, CT to start a family. In 1979, he and his family moved to Woodland Park, CO, then residing to Colorado Springs.
Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life. When he wasn’t hunting you could find him on a river or on a lake fly fishing at one of this favorite fishing spots. When he wasn’t hunting for fishing, he enjoyed collecting fishing rods and fly-fishing equipment. He was quite a serious collector. He relished telling fishing stories, and stories about the rare rods or scarce reel he would come across at estate sales and adding these rare finds to his vast collection. Larry was also a fan of all country music, but he really loved John Denver and Alabama. He also loved old, classic western movies.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the kind, caring and supportive medical staff at Life Care Center, Penrose Hospital and Compassus-Hospice.
The family will have a private service. In memory of Larry, contributions may be made to: Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Address: CPW Donations Attn: Financial Services 606 Broadway Denver, CO 80216 Website: cpw.state.co.us
