Lynn was born on September 15, 1951 in York, Nebraska. She was the third of Arnold and Mary White’s four daughters. Her parents predeceased her. After graduating from Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska in 1974, Lynn worked in Connecticut and Colorado before returning to Nebraska. In 1980 she and her husband, Ira, were married in Lincoln, Nebraska. Lynn and Ira lived in Dayton, Ohio and Columbus, Indiana before moving to Colorado Springs in 1984. In 1986, they adopted their son Benjamin through Jewish Family Services of Denver.
Lynn worked as a sales associate at McKinsey-White Booksellers and spent 15 years at Current, Inc. as an in-house product designer, and later as a contract graphic artist. Beginning in 2003, Lynn joined the gardening staff at High Valley Farms, and she obtained her Master Gardener certification from the Colorado State University Extension Office.
Gardening became Lynn’s great enjoyment, therapy and refuge, and she became masterful at siting large varieties of plants and grasses to create a full and ever-changing landscape at High Valley and in her multiple gardens at her home. Lynn became a member of Denver Botanical Gardens and frequently took advantage of the resources provided through her membership.
Lynn also was an accomplished artist, and many of her paintings can be found in her sisters’ homes. She also had an eye for new artists, and collected numerous original works during trips to Denver, Taos, and Santa Fe. She had a wonderful eye for beauty and made their modest home a warm and inviting residence.
Her husband of 41 years, Ira, her son Benjamin, and the family’s beloved Shetland Sheepdogs, Rufus and Molly Bea survive Lynn. She also is survived by her sisters Anita (and husband Greg Barth) of Loveland, Colorado, Patricia (and husband Rick Watson) of Blair, Nebraska, and Brenda (Zahller) of Yuma, Colorado, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Lynn’s family dearly loved her. She will be missed daily, but her artistry, love of life, and caring nature will be a constant presence in our lives. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations to the Colorado office of the Nature Conservancy (nature.org) are appreciated.
