Lynne Rosella DeGroot Novotny was born June 22, 1949 in Colorado Springs, CO. Lynne entered into eternal rest on June 18, 2024, at home in Calhan, Colorado. Lynne was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer late in 2022 and was able to spend as much time as she could with her family and close friends following her diagnosis.
Lynne was born on June 22, 1949 to Forrest and Eva (Baker) DeGroot. Lynne was the third of five children born to this union. After living in different locations in Colorado, the family settled in Hanover, CO. Lynne had fond memories of her childhood with cousins and friends, stories she loved sharing.
Lynne married David Lee Novotny on May 31, 1981. They built a home in rural Calhan, CO and raised Lynne’s sons, Dale and Donald Talbert, from a former marriage. Lynne and Dave also raised sheep, cows, calves, chickens, pheasants, ducks and peacocks on their ranch over the years. Lynne found her passion and peace in her vegetable gardens and flower gardens. She never met a rock she didn’t love and made several rock gardens. She had a green thumb and loved weeding and caring for her plants. Anyone who came to visit was given a tour of her beautiful gardens and she was quick to offer a transplant from her flower gardens so others could enjoy their beauty.
Lynne had many talents and was very knowledgeable in many crafts. She could wire a house and construct almost anything in her wood shop. Lynne worked as a school bus driver for many years and enjoyed driving students to sports games. You could always count on Lynne to be in the bleachers, cheering on her sons, Dale and Donald; and later, her grandchildren. After her sons graduated high school, Lynne worked at the United States Postal Service as a Rural Carrier. She was able to arrange her schedule so she could spend as much time as possible with her grandchildren. Lynne never missed an occasion to send cards to family to help them celebrate special events. She especially loved having her family at her home during any holidays and enjoyed every minute of visiting she could get. Lynne rarely missed any family functions, and always made sure her grandchildren knew her world revolved around them. Lynne was an avid cake baker and decorator and would always bring a special cake to her grandchildren for their birthdays. Lynne was able to spend a lot of time with her grandchildren during her life and made sure they knew how much she loved them. She also became a great grandmother twice during the past year.
Lynne is survived by her husband, Dave; sons Dale (Jeannette) Talbert and Donald (Tracy) Talbert; sister Karen (Dave) Million, sister Lana Sue DeGroot, brother Roger (Delene) DeGroot; grandchildren Travis Talbert (Brittany Krasher), great granddaughter Madelynne Talbert, Peyton Smith and Noah Krasher; granddaughter Samantha (Nick) Chandler, granddaughter Mahayla Talbert (Frankie Sanchez), great grandsons Lukas Sanchez and Keenan Sanchez; grandson Ethan Talbert. Lynne is also survived by lots of family and friends, too many to list, but who love her dearly.
Lynne is preceded in death by her parents Forrest (Eva) DeGroot, and sister Elaine (John) Newman.
Lynne will be laid to rest in Calhan Memorial Cemetery, Hahn Road, Calhan, CO 80808.
