Marcella Fees Hunt was born in Hartford City, Indiana on September 5, 1924. She was the second daughter of Mark and Alta Fees. Unfortunately Marcella would never meet her Dad, Mark Fees, as he died months before her birth. Shortly after Marcella's birth, Alta, now a single mom, moved her family to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she would raise her two girls. Marcella's fondest childhood memories, however, would always remain Hartford City. She and her sister, Helen, would spend the best summers of their lives with both sets of grandparents in Hartford City.
Marcella's childhood years were filled with joy and love of life. Her passions included all sports, everlasting friendships, politics, and little dogs (later in life she added the stock market to this list). She prided herself on being voted the best athlete in a sizable school; Will Rogers High School, Tulsa, Oklahoma. She excelled in tennis, swimming, and basketball. Many of the kids she grew up with remained friends throughout her life. Marcella developed her passion for politics at a very early age as a result of the love and respect she held for her grandfather, an Indiana State Senator. And then there was her little canine, Micky, that held a big spot in her heart.
Fast forward to 1942, Marcella would put little Micky's lesson to use.... "get on the road and look for greener pastures!". Marcella began the pursuit of her dreams at Oklahoma State University, after a year she transferred to USC in California. When she got the traveling itch again she entered Northwestern University in Illinois. Finally she circled back around and came home. She graduated from University of Oklahoma in 1946 with a bachelor's in business admin. At that point and forever more she would become a proud Boomer Sooner!
Marcella's stepfather, Kelly, introduced her to a handsome, charming man, Dudley Hunt Jr., in 1947. She quickly scrambled to inform the two beaus in the wings, their engagements were definitely scrubbed. She married Dudley in 47' and began the next chapter of her life. She gave birth to three children in Oklahoma. Her husband was transferred to Illinois where she gave birth to two more babies. Shirley, Gib, Susie, Mark, Steve and Dad became the center of her life. Just as she embraced a love of life as a child, she diligently embraced a devotion to her family as a mother. She gave it her all.
Marcella lost her husband prematurely in 1975 while living in Houston, Texas. She took hold of the reins and finished raising her two boys that still remained at home. Marcella sold her home and took a job as a travel agent. It was a perfectly suitable job for a wandering spirit. It was finally Mom Time and she began to fulfill a life time dream; getting on the road and seeing the world. Her fondest memories of traveling the world were not necessarily the sites, but the people she met along the way.
The sundown of life comes in many forms. Without a doubt, Marcella vehemently opposed old age. Period. She hated watching her body wind down. Her spirit rebelled. But what she had going for her were five kids that reached out to return the dedication and love that she gave them throughout her life. Her daughter, Shirley, brought her into her beautiful little home in Palmer Lake, Colorado to allow her the opportunity to end her life on earth with much dignity and respect. Marcella took her last breath with family by her side on October 6, 2025. She leaves behind 5 children, 17 grandchildren and a handful of great grandchildren. Her greatest legacy; treat people kindly and live life to the max.
Marcella's son, Steve, found a great spot for her to rest. (It's not Houston, but it's the next best thing Ma!) It sits on a sweet hillside.
A graveside service will be held at Crystal Valley Cemetery on October 14 at 11:00am. RIP Ma.
Please join us after the service at Crystal Park Cantina, 178 Crystal Park Road, Manitou Springs, Colorado, 80829. Please see the invite under images on Marcellas online page.
