Martha O. Gallegos

On Tuesday, May 11, 2016, Martha Orlinda Gallegos passed away in her home in Colorado Springs, CO. Martha was born in San Luis, CO, on July 7, 1929, to Antonio and Lupita (Sandoval) Velasquez. She married Luis Dario Gallegos, also from, San Luis, CO.

Although much of her early life was filled with poverty and hardship, she lived her entire life with an abundance of love. In her early years, she quit grade school to care for her younger siblings, worked tirelessly picking produce in the fields, and had the opportunity to watch the downtown cattle drives be replaced by the first automobiles. Later, she raised a beautiful family including her two children, which led to four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She provided for and loved upon each member of her family endlessly with a wonderful sense of humor and a whit that could outmatch any brave soul.

Martha leaves behind a beautiful family consisting of her son Michael Dario Gallegos with his wife Gwen, and her daughter Monica Ida Zettlemoyer with her husband Stephen. Her grandchildren include Stephen Michael Zettlemoyer with his wife Rebekah and son Jadon, Curtis Michael Gallegos, Amy Marie Diedrich with her husband Dan and son Christian, and David Matthew Zettlemoyer with his wife Jalean. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind 4 siblings.

Farewell services will include a viewing, rosary mass, and funeral/grave site service. The viewing will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home (3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO, 80910) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the rosary mass following at 6 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (2030 W. Colorado Ave, Colorado Springs, CO, 80904) at 1 p.m. with the grave site service immediately following at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home.
