Michael S. Dugan Sr., 67, of Colorado Springs, passed away at home on 04/20/26, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. Michael was born on August 25, 1958, in Pittsburgh, PA, the youngest of 10 children in a large Irish family. Michael graduated from Gateway High School in 1976 and then attended trade school in PA becoming an electrician. He started his career wiring homes but transitioned to power plant work a short time later. He worked in nuclear, coal and hydroelectric power plants. This profession would eventually bring Michael and his family to Colorado. Michael had a long and fulfilling career working at Martin Drake Power Plant/Colorado Springs Utilities, retiring after 30 years.
Michael met the love of his life Rita in high school and they were married in 1979. They recently celebrated their 47th year Anniversary. They had two children, a son Michael S. Dugan Jr. (Sonya); and his daughter, Christine M. Gray (Kenneth). Michael cherished time with his family most of all. He was a devoted grandfather to Zane, Zaiden, Clara, Allison, and James, and he never missed their games or events.
Michael loved his “old‑man” hockey and softball games, and he found joy in fishing, golfing with friends, tinkering with computers, exploring 3D printing, and taking in every moment with his grandkids. He was an avid woodworker, making many of the beautiful pieces of furniture in his home. A life-long fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams, he and Rita enjoyed traveling, fishing but most of all spending time with their 5 grandchildren.
While our family has lost a beloved husband, father, and grandpa, many others have lost a friend, uncle, brother, and role model. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, Penrose St. Francis Hospital, and Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care. He was loved beyond measure, and we deeply appreciate the compassionate care he received.
