Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and friend, Nancy Lee (Herd) Bole, went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2024. She was born in Lincoln, NE to Thomas and Virginia Mae (Boeke) Herd on July 9th, 1944. Growing up she lived in Lincoln, NE, Guernsey, WY, and Omaha, NE. She was the oldest of 7 children. When she was 13, and the youngest was 3 months old, her Dad was killed in a car accident. Nancy had to grow up quickly and help her mom with her brothers and sisters. This is where her lifelong commitment to keeping a clean and tidy household started. She met her husband, Charlie, on a blind date at a New Year's Eve Party, December 31, 1964. They hit it off immediately. Charlie was honorably discharged from the Air Force in July of 1965, and were married September 11, 1965. Charlie decided to go back to school, and both of them worked full-time to support his education. After college, they moved to Lakewood, Colorado in 1970. In 1972, a neighbor invited their son Chris, who was 2, to Vacation Bible School at Bear Valley Baptist Church in Denver. It was at Bear Valley that she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. For the last 40 years she has had a close group of friends from Bear Valley that have met once a month for lunch and fellowship. Nancy was a prayer warrior and loved helping with MOPS in the nursery. They moved to Colorado Springs in 2005, and began attending Vista Grande Baptist Church, where Charlie accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Both church families were very important to Nancy, and she has, and had, many longtime friends from both.
Nancy loved the mountains and living in Colorado. Particularly she loved her view of Pikes Peak from her kitchen window, where she would sit with a cup of coffee and catalog all the animals that passed through her yard. Her life was defined by the deep relationships she cultivated around her. You could always count on her to say exactly what she meant, and she was frequently willing to say what other people were thinking. This authenticity and commitment to her principles is how we will remember her.
Charlie and Nancy were blessed with two children, Christopher (RaChelle) of Colorado Springs and Lindsey (Luke) Terry of Firestone. They have seven grandchildren: Chanelle, Woodland Park, CO; Camden (Marian) Bole of Long Beach, CA; Reagan, Colorado Springs, CO; Alex, Phoenix, AZ; Elijah, Colorado Springs, CO; and Lincoln and Mason Terry of Firestone. CO.
In her last days, Nancy was blessed to be surrounded by her children, and all 7 grandchildren were with her the weekend before her passing. We are confident that she is celebrating being home with Jesus.
The Family would like to thank St. Francis ICU, Pikes Peak Post Acute, and Pikes Peak Hospice for their amazing care over the last 4 months.
Internment will take place at Pikes Peak Veterans Cemetery.
If you feel so led, in lieu of flowers, please considering donating either to Vista Grande Baptist Church Missions, or Pikes Peak Hospice.
