Neil Ruff Hinchman

Neil Hinchman (age 88) passed away peacefully at his Colorado Springs home on October 11, 2023. He was born to Herman and Edna Hinchman on February 9th, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was raised in Indiana, grew up in Indianapolis and aIended Broad Ripple High School. There he was Captain of the football team and President of the Senior Class in 1953. He attended Indiana University where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, a member of several honoraries and was President of the Student Union. He served in the US Army Reserve for 8 years.

He met his wife of 64 years, Sally Hirsch of DePauw University and they were married in 1959. They have 3 sons: Greg and Doug of Colorado Springs and David of Boise Idaho. Greg and his wife Pam raised 3 daughters: Cady of California and Julie and Kylie of Denver. David and his wife Nani raised 5 children: Colin, Hallie, Hayden, Riley and Teagan in Boise.

Neil began his telecommunicatons career in 1958 with Indiana Bell and in 1970 transferred to New York with AT&T. The family spent 8 years in New Jersey. Neil was named Vice President of AT&T of the Mountain States in 1983, with the family moving to Denver.

Being active in civic affairs in Denver, he was a Board Member of the Denver Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Denver, Junior Achievement, the Denver Baseball Commission, Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry.

Neil attended the Harvard Graduate School of Business Advanced Management Program in 1984-85. In 1991, he was awarded a special honoree in the registry of Who’s Who of America.

Upon his retirement in 1994, Neil and Sally enjoyed many rounds of golf and they travelled extensively. They moved to Colorado Springs where they were members of the Garden of the Gods Club and Kissing Camels Club. They also wintered in San Diego where they were members of the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. Neil was the Club Champion at Kissing Camels and won several tournaments with Sally in Colorado at Kissing Camels and Perry Park, and in San Diego. They made many friends through their golfing activities.

Neil and Sally celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in September of 2023.

He is remembered for his many achievements, as loving husband, and being a caring and generous father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
