Rex was born on August 25, 1959, in Afton, Wyoming, to Eugene Reynolds Jensen and LaNae Field Jensen. He spent his earliest years in Afton before moving with his family to Colorado Springs, where he grew up, built his life, raised his family, and remained rooted in the community until his passing. He graduated from Widefield High School in 1977 and later attended Pikes Peak State College.
Rex was known for his dependability, toughness, and strong work ethic. One of his familiar sayings was, "If you can walk, you can work," and he lived by that belief throughout his life. After high school, he worked in the warehouse and lumber trades with companies including Sutherland Lumber, Capp Homes, and Georgia-Pacific Corporation. During his time at Georgia-Pacific, he earned multiple safety awards, was voted Employee of the Year in 1986, and was respected for his reliability, skill, and can-do attitude. Rex later spent much of his career as a merchandiser with E. & J. Gallo, which later evolved into Breakthru Beverage Group. He retired in July 2024.
Rex was the father of Bryan Eugene Jensen and Rachel Dawn Jensen, and being a dad and grandfather was one of the great accomplishments of his life. He could be tough and direct, but beneath that exterior was a loving and compassionate man who cared deeply for his family. He taught his children responsibility, discipline, and practical skills, from yard work and chores to basic auto mechanics. He also shared many simple and lasting moments with them, including backyard basketball, playing catch, and spending time together outdoors.
Rex enjoyed golf, billiards, hunting, fishing, Colorado sports, classic rock, and country music. He was a talented pool player who competed in tournaments and often practiced at The Corner Pocket in Security, Colorado. He also enjoyed following the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, and Colorado Buffaloes football. In later years, he and his son Bryan shared a meaningful Thanksgiving tradition at MacKenzie's Chop House, creating father-son memories that will be treasured.
Faith was an important part of Rex's life. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Later in life, he returned to full activity in the Church and completed meaningful priesthood milestones in the Fountain Colorado Stake, including being ordained a priest in 2017 and an elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood in 2018. His faith, belief in God, and personal relationship with prayer remained meaningful to him throughout his life.
Rex is survived by his children, Bryan Eugene Jensen and Rachel Dawn Jensen; his grandchildren, Desirae Elizabeth Duran, Kayla Jeanne Jensen, and Aubrey Emiko Jensen; and his siblings, Kirk Jensen, Brad Jensen, Rod Jensen, and Deanne Jensen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Reynolds Jensen and LaNae Field Jensen.
