

Smith, Robert (Bob) Martin Smith, age 88, of Colorado Springs, CO, born January 19, 1928, deceased June 21, 2016, grew up in Atchison, KS and attended Maur Hill Prep High School. He joined the Navy to see the world and serve our country during the Korean War era. After being Honorably Discharged, he attended Benedictine College and University of Colorado and graduated with an accounting degree. Bob started off as an auditor and worked his way up to a CPA. He loved accounting and organizing, but mostly saving people money on their income taxes.
He moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1955, where he met the “Love of his Life”, Rose Ann Terry, his wife of 48 years. They married in 1958 and raised five children. Bob encountered many physical challenges throughout his life, including losing one kidney, four cancers, heart disease, diabetes, and fought pneumonia to the very end with courage and dignity.
His legacy consists of his strong faith and love for his extended family. Bob’s family members who will cherish his memory are sons, Marty Smith (LeeAnn) and Tim Smith (Kristen); daughters, Roseanne Smith, Teresa Smith and Margaret Raitt (Doug); the ten Smith and Raitt grandchildren, Nicole, Garrett, Grant, Braden, Parker, Evan, Jordan, Garret, Mary, John; his great grandchildren, Kinsley and Brecken; and sister Mary Margaret (Marge) McGinnis; brother, Joseph Smith and wife Marcella. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose Ann; parents, Joseph John Smith and Mary Margaret (Ruhlman) Smith; brother, Paul Smith ; and sisters, Loretto Smith and Catherine Smith.
The entire Smith family would like to give special thanks to the very gifted caregivers at Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care! They all cared for our father as they would their own, with unending compassion, giving enormous respect and sustaining his dignity to the very end of his earthly life. We would also like to thank his doctor of many years, Dr. Richard Evans, for his constant support throughout Dad’s challenges in life.
Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, June 29th, at 2 PM in St. Mary Cathedral, 22 W. Kiowa Street, Colorado Springs, CO. Visitation Tuesday, June 28th from 5-6:30 PM. Rosary at 6:30 PM, Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave. Colorado Springs, CO 80903 and one hour prior to the mass at church.
