She was born to Edwin and Ella (Fulle) Meyer, February 21st, 1933 in Athol, Kansas. Growing up on a rural farm, her first memory of driving a tractor was at the age of 9. She graduated from Athol High School, and shortly thereafter eloped with her soldier and love of her life, Elden (Rex), and was married August 16, 1950 in Clarksville, Tennessee. They were married 65 years.
As a military wife she and Elden experienced travel from Ft. Campbell, KY, where Jeff and Tedi were born, to El Paso, TX, where Shawn was born and then overseas to Okinawa for 3 years. When Elden retired after 20 years with the Army, they moved to Colorado Springs where Holly was born. Roma encouraged Elden to apply at IBM where he was employed for another 25 years.
In 1978 Roma started working for Overhead Door and was employed for the next 18 years, retiring as the Service Manager in 1996.
She was an industrious homemaker, mom and wife. Good food was the love language of her family and she creatively prepared three meals each and every day.
She walked alongside Elden in all of life, in gardening, in his handyman business after retirement, serving others, visiting their children often. Elden never left the house without a hearty breakfast and a lovingly prepared sack lunch. There are many wonderful memories of holiday meals with family and friends and homecooked feasts prepared by Roma.
Roma’s life’s desire was to Love Jesus and to glorify Him in all that she was. She faithfully began each day in the stillness of His Word and Love. She wrote a note:
‘If there is any good it came from the Lord. Thanks be to God, my Soulmate, my family and friends who helped me in my journey.’
Roma was preceded in death by her “honey” Elden. She is survived by her 4 children, Jeffery (Gloria) Lyon, Tedi (Eric) Dupont, Shawn (Daniel) Hunt, and Holly (Dennis) McMonigle; grandchildren Joel Lyon, Greg (Lindsey) Lyon, Tess (Jarrod) Renaud, Zachariah (Dana) Hunt, Morgan (Joseph) Milanowski, Rosalind Lyon; great-grandchildren Olive, Boston, Sailor, and Rosie Renaud, Alexander and Rhea Lyon, her sister Elizabeth (Ken) Uden and sister-in-laws, Betty Eller and Helen Bridgewater.
