As Grandpa's birthday is nearing  I cannot help but think of him and all the great memories I have of him. I miss him tremendously. I was fortunate enough a few years ago to visit Grandpa in Colorado. I asked Grandpa for the pictures in the hallway of my parents, my dad's (Charles Butch Dunnell) military pictures, and my dad's varsity letter from high school. Those pictures were in the hallway as long as I could remember. The day I saw the empty hallway was extremely emotional. Grandpa and I spent hours talking that week. He told me stories of him and grandma, stories of my dad growing up, about his family; we both laughed and cried a great deal that week. It was emotional. I will forever be grateful for our time together. I miss and love my grandpa and grandma so much. They will always hold a special place in my heart. I am thankful I have so many wonderful memories and photos with my grandparents.

Grandpa Rudy gave me my first car. His old blue Subaru brat.  I have fond memories of riding in the back of that car up to the mountains.  Then later driving it though high school. Even though we did not speak for many years, in the last few we would email jokes and talk politics.  I've always missed him.

Grandpa Rudy will always hold a special place in my heart and in my memories. I remember so fondly childhood visits in the summer to see him and my grandmother, Marian.  Those were great adventures. Their home in the mountains was always so warm and inviting. Grandma Marian would be busy in the kitchen cooking up something delicious or baking an apple pie while grandpa Rudy was in the living room sitting in his favorite chair making us laugh with a story.  Those times are so precious to me and in large part it was because of Grandpa Rudy. I admired my grandpa and always thought him so full of life and knowledge and he always took the time to teach his curious grandchildren. A kind and generous man with a quick smile and a great love for his family is how I remember my grandpapa. Though the years and miles were between us, you were always- and will ever remain so- very dear to me and truly loved.

For the past five years Rudy has been my pen pal via email. He was my father-in-law first and my friend. He was happy to answer my how to fix this or  what questions should I ask repairmen. He would always have the answers for me and say "you best take care of that." 
Rudy was able to locate old family pictures that were taken in Kansas and forward them me. I was so thankful. 
Rudy was just happy giving of himself. 
My in box is empty now. So many letters filed away to read and remember him.

Uncle Rudy was always giving of himself and one to never ask for help with anything or take anything for his benefit.  His happiness always came from helping others.  I knew him to be proud of his Military background.  He was a real stand up person.  A man I am proud to have known.  Someone I respected and looked up to.  My favorite Uncle.

     The family of Serena E. Bielz has had the most wonderful opportunity to experience in God's creation of a blessed, family relationship with Rudolph Rudy Arreguin.  During the past years, we became very close friends as Rudy was known to my daughter, Tristyn's, as a B.F.F.  Best Friends Forever and was truly significant father figure within our lives.  Rudy shared some of his life experiences with me many times and as I recall --Rudy was born in Missouri on April 05, 1927 to his parents Rudolph Arreguin and Anita Gandare Arreguin. Rudy joined the Navy as a Motor Machinist- 3rd Class Petty Officer in February 1945 till July 1946.  Also during that time, he served over seas in the Philistines.   A few years later after leaving the Navy in 1950, Rudy reenlisted in the Air Force.   Furthermore, while stationed in Kansas he met the love of his life, Marian, and married on May 14, 1955 in Wichita.   Rudy retired as a Master Sgt. From the Air Force in 1971.  He chuckled as he explained he did not make E8 or E9 due to he was a little ornery!  Rudy and Mirian moved to Colorado Springs in 1968 and then built their house in Cripple Creek Mountain Estates, Colorado in 1972.  Rudy and Marian were very active in the community within associations like the BPOE Elks.  The loss of his love, Marian, June 26, 2002 was very devastating to him but life had to continue on he said.  He remarried, Hulda Belle Snow, April 10, 2003 as she had passed on a few years ago on January 12, 2012.  Rudy remained in Cripple Creek Mountain Estates.  Rudy was quite compassionate in his heart and truly cared for the people in his lives.  While he has an older brother and younger sister still living, he, also, has many relatives living in the family of the Arreguin's.  Rudy was truly a blessing in my life as well as others.  While the emptiness of my heart can never be filled again, there is joy to know as I told him before he passed on, November 19, 2015. I will see you again in Heaven.
