Zella Mae McKee

Zella Mae McKee, a long time resident of Colorado Springs and native of Colorado, passed away on May 7, 2011. Zella was born on July 26, 1927 in Granada, Colorado, to Homer and Zella (Wence) Thompson. Zella Mae had 7 brothers and sisters, Ralph Thompson, Leota Brown, Ramona Starr, Jackie Vogel, Fredrick Vogel, William Vogel and Ruth Jimeson. She attended school in Granada, Alma, Woodland Park and Falcon. Zella Mae married Harold McKee on March 25, 1946 and together had two sons.

Zella Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold of 64 years; two granddaughters, Leanne Kaufman and Dawn McKee; great grandson, Cody Dale Shaffer; adopted son Jack Plunkett; and most of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two sons Jay and Ron McKee and their families, her brother Fredrick, her loved niece D’Nette Wigley, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 13, 2011 at Swan Law. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
