Calvin and his family immigrated to the United States in 1976.
In 1993, while earning his undergraduate degree, Calvin met his lovely Eden and the two were blessed by 31 years together. They were married on December 6, 1998 after Calvin earned his Master’s degree in Public Health from Loma Linda University.
Calvin went on to earn another Master’s degree in Physical Therapy, and worked for a number of years caring for patients, mentoring colleagues, and living out the message of “treat others as you want to be treated.” His colleagues noted that every patient and clinician he worked with commented on his kindness and his boundless patience.
Calvin and Eden raised three incredible sons—Christian, Evan, and Caden. His children were the light of his life. Although he worked hard in his career, Calvin made his children a priority always. He was a frequent and familiar face on campus at their school and in their church community, chaperoning trips, manning fundraiser booths, and even volunteering to coach the high school Cross Country team with Eden for a number of years.
In February of 2004, Calvin was diagnosed with cancer. Through the many treatments, procedures, surgeries, and more, Calvin never complained. His motto in life was always “if God wakes me up today, I will make the best of it.” He embodied strength, resilience, and dignity in the face of a brain tumor in 2016 and a devastating spinal cord injury in 2021.
Through every trial, Calvin was a man of steadfast faith, a loving husband, and a model father. He was a friend to everyone he met, a gracious and generous member of his La Sierra community, and a true servant of God.
Calvin will be missed beyond words by many, but his legacy of love, kindness, and faith survive and will remain our comfort and strength always.”
