Eliezer, also known as “Ely”, “Eli” and “Toto” was born on April 24,1942 in Indang, Cavite, Philippines. Ely attended Manila Central Elementary School. He finished high school at Pasay City Academy in 1959. Ely attended Mountain View College and Philippine Union College for his pre-med courses, and graduated from Manila Central University School of Medicine in 1971.
In 1966, Ely married the love of his life, Gloria Mendiola and started a family. They had five daughters in a row and finally conceived two sons, otherwise they would have probably been blessed with a dozen daughters.
Upon graduating, Ely worked as a staff physician at Binondo Maternity Hospital in Manila then at Grace Hospital in Rosario, Cavite. He also worked as a company doctor for Air France based in Manila and Najran Construction Company in Saudi Arabia. In Manila Sanitarium and Hospital, Ely practiced his specialty in anesthesiology from 1974 to 1985. During those years, he was largely instrumental in relentlessly bringing about drastic changes that resulted in favorable benefits for that hospital. Having a compassionate heart, Ely provided charity work to less fortunate patients while he was in private practice.
In February of 1986 when President Marcos was ousted from government, Ely migrated his whole family to the United States armed only with his strong faith in God. Being blessed with loving and supportive friends and relatives, Ely was able to establish a good life for his family. He worked as a Psychiatric Technician at Patton State Hospital from 1988 to 2000. He fully enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his fourteen grandchildren during his retirement. Ely loved walking, gardening, playing chess and watching sports. He was an active member of the Loma Linda Filipino SDA Church where he served as an elder and a Sabbath School teacher. Ely was an advisor and an active member of the Alumni Association of Pasay City Academy with whom he joined medical missions to the Philippines.
After courageously battling Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for four years, he passed away surrounded by his family on February 19, 2022 at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
