Elmer Estima Hull was born on the 10th of December 1955 in Tadian, Mountain Province, Philippines. He was raised by his beautiful mother, Agnes Estima Hull and late father, Guver Thomas W. Hull (US Army Veteran). He was the eldest amongst eleven siblings: Belinda, Jonathan, Nora, Lily Mae (deceased), Joyce, Bertha, Annabelle, Dennis, Baby David (deceased), Alda, and Marjorie.
Elmer was blessed with six wonderful children: Glory May, Sunrise, Curry Dean, Erwin, Mitchelle, and Charity. He was gifted with gorgeous and handsome grandchildren: Sheanne, Shaina, Sunrise Jr., Jamaica Kaye, Yram Dain, Amber Lynn, Chleo Leanna, Jaynmay, Margo Derek, and Derek Mathew. Elmer was also survived by his strong willed and selfless wife, Ella Manaos Hull.
Elmer E. Hull was endowed with musical talents in singing, songwriting, and playing musical instruments. He was one of the biggest names and original recording artist of Philippine local music industry in the Cordillera Provinces back in the 80’s. With musical style and tone that resembles Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, Hank Williams, John Denver and some other famous country and folk music artists alike, coupled by his singing-songwriting ingenuity and charisma; Elmer captured the hearts of many Filipinos particularly the Cordillerans in the Philippines and abroad.
Elmer was still active in making music in the Philippines even after he migrated to the U.S.A. sometimes in the 90’s, but slowly shifted his path to pursue other careers in California. Elmer Hull works as a custodian in some various doctor’s clinics and other side jobs for many years. Through his unmatched work ethics, attention to details, hard work, and perseverance, he landed a promising career. He was at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino, California working as a unionized custodian. He works diligently for years providing for his personals needs and for his family. Despite of not being in the limelight of a recording artist and being busy on his daily life, he continued to write songs and better himself as a musician on every free time that he can get. He had plans on coming back in the near future to record songs once again. He also continued to display his musical prowess by serenading his “Kababayans/Kailyans”, friends, and families on events organized by Cordillera Associations here in the U.S.A. and recently through live recording on Facebook.
Elmer’s favorite pass time was tending his garden, grafting plants, making poems, and obviously music. He was also fond on experimenting different kinds of fruit preserves and jam. He also loves to collect uncommon edible plants as part of his nutritional diet, that randomly grows around his yard, on public parks, and even along the road side.
On October 31, 2018, Elmer reprise his old song from the 80’s “Men Manmaneho”, one of the
Cordillerans favorite song of his, via live recording through Facebook. This was his last live performance. In that song, there’s a line that goes “men manmaneho, si biyahero”. The traveler is driving, and he is indeed, a traveler and a driver. Although Elmer is not physically with us, he is and will always be in our hearts. He is traveling a different dimension ahead of us continuing his journey. He is driving that long and winding road, clearing every road hazards for us, making sure that we safely get to our destination when we travel that road.
Just like every human being on this earth, Elmer is not a perfect man. He had fair shares of mistakes in life. But despite of all his shortcomings, Elmer is a good man. A dedicated and law abiding citizen. He exemplify humility at his best. Elmer is a kind and considerate human being. He loves his families and friends. And most of all, he keeps his faith to his creator.
Elmer Hull will forever be a father, a grandfather, a son, a brother, a husband, a friend, in-law, a singer songwriter, a poet, a guitar player, a gardener, a provider, a comforter, a driver, a traveler, a comedian, a custodian, a lover, a hard worker, and the list goes on. Elmer could be anything or somebody, but he will always embody a high level of humanity.
Elmer Estima Hull, you are sadly missed along life’s way, quietly remembered everyday. No longer in our life to share, but in our hearts, you are always there. You are gone, but never forgotten.
We love you forever
