

Ernesto Cortés passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He was 84 years old. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his family. Ernesto lived a full life. He was born in Veracruz, Mexico on January 20, 1937, to Sixto and Heriberta Cortés. Ernesto had eight brothers and sisters. In1970, he moved to Riverside, California with his wife Lyda. Together, they had two children. Zenia and Ernest Cortés. He was zealous about learning and furthering his education. Ernesto earned two bachelor degrees, in Spanish and History, and also earned two masters’ degrees, in Counseling in Education and Religion Theology. He was a thesis shy from achieving his PhD in Spanish literature. Ernesto used his knowledge to work in various fields of education. Over the course of his career, he taught at Montemorelos College, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and Antillan College, Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He was a Spanish professor at several local universities and colleges, including UCR and RCC. He also taught Spanish at Rancho Verde High School where he retired from. Ernesto was very active in the Seventh-Day Adventist church, and would preach at several local SDA churches and abroad. He also loved to write and self-published several books. One of Ernesto’s many passions was to travel the world. He travelled to 23 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, North, Central and South America. Ernesto is survived by his wife of 55 years Lyda, his daughter Zenia, his son Ernest, his daughter-in-law Dara, and two grandsons Deakon and Baron. Ernesto was loved by many, but none more than his family. Rest in Peace Papi.
