now, at the time of the above picture (L0 years ago), she was a vivacious, strong-willed, fiercely independent
woman' other than being a faithful child of God, being a mother has always been the most important role in
Mom's life, and she and our beloved Dad (who died tragically of cancer several years ago) instilled a strong
commitment to family in all of us, her five children. She always talked about wanting us to all live in the same city again in Milwaukee, WI (Joyce's home city at the time and where she raised us. In May of 2000,Joyce suffered a massive stroke. The doctors at the time called, us all together in the hospital
told us to prepare for the worst' However, Mom was a fighter and woke up, learned to walk and to speak minimally over the next year. For a while, she was able to stay in her home with Lisa (the daughter who still lived in Milwaukee), moving in to provide primary caretaker support. Over the next few years Mom's condition deteriorated and it got to be too much for Lisa to handle by herself. we all made the decision to bring Mom out to California (where two siblings have resided for years) so we could all live close by and support Mom (and each other) together. lt's hard to see her in her current condition; however, we all feel so blessed to be able to be together with her at this time' Although it is not quite what she had in mind, we all live in the same city again. we know every day she feels the love, as do we. And we are deeply grateful for all the wonderful staff at Villa Mesa ,in Upland who have taken such great care of our mother. We just want to Give GOD all the honor and glory for giving us all such a great faithful woman of GOD...
