

Larrie graduated from Colton High School in 1953. He was President of the Future Farmers of America Club and played Polo in the Perris Polo Club as well as with his father at the Palm Springs Polo Grounds. He very much enjoyed the sport and won several tournaments in the 1950's.
Another favorite hobby of his was racing cars. He started racing Jalopies in the mid 1950's and raced stock cars in the 1960's and 1970's. Larrie raced against Parnelli Jones, A.J. Foyt and others. He raced at Irwindale, Ontario, Orange Show, Riverside and Las Vegas Raceways.
In June of 1953, he joined the Local 12 - Operating Engineers and worked with the union until 1999 when he retired. During his years with Local 12, he was a Steward for some construction jobs and was on the Advisory and Executive Boards.
Mr. Funkhouser has four sons; Larrie Jr., of Rohnert Park, Ca., David, of Phelan, Ca., Rodger, of Hesperia, Ca. and Chris, of Hesperia, Ca. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
David, Rodger and Chris also are working for Local 12, keeping the legacy name alive. Larrie's father, Elmer was also in the Local 12 Union with the start of the Funkhouser family.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Inland Valley Hospice in Riverside, California or to the Parkinson's Association of your choice.
