In thanksgiving for the life of María Reyna García Cervantes, who passed away 25 November 2014, after a rigorous bout with cancer. María Reyna was born on 30 October 1950 to loving parents, Martina and Jesús. One of nine siblings, María Reyna’s life in the humble ranch town of Guamúchil, outside Culicán, Sinaloa was honest and upright.
In 1972, after a lengthy time of writing letters to one another, María Reyna married Victor García, and came to live with him in Los Angeles, California to start their life together. In the first decade of their marriage, María Reyna and Victor welcomed three beautiful daughters into the world. Among her professional achievements she chose to pursue a license to become a nurse’s assistant, which was a source of great pride to her. Working in this capacity she was beloved by her patients and their families for her warm, attentive and loving care.
In the spring of 2013, after months of symptoms and doctor’s appointments, she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. In the time since this diagnosis, forced with few and grave choices, María Reyna courageously chose for more: more treatment, more time, more hope. She fought valiantly, gracefully, but against a formidable opponent. In the last months of her life, though filled with fear and worry, María Reyna also marked this time with promise for the future and joy for the present moments.
This is how she will be remembered, basking in her sunlit garden, sitting on her outdoor swing, warm breeze in her dark hair, and a deep smile. En Paz descanse.
The family would be honored to invite you to a memorial mass to be held at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM, with a Rosary at 10:00 AM.
Flowers may be sent to Montecito Mortuary on Friday, December 12 to be taken to the church.
