Paul was one in a million! He was talented, kind and compassionate. When my husband died suddenly at 40. Paul took my son who was member of the EHS Band he took him under his wing and was there for him many times especially during those important years in highschool.🌹🌹

Road trip. Kind of out of the blue, Paul called me and asked if I would go to Vegas with him. He wanted to look at a ‘74 Corvette some guy had for sale.  I learned after we were on the way that ‘74 was a special year for him.
I was not at all sure why he’d called me. He knew me because I was married to one of his band director colleagues; but other than that we really hadn’t had much contact. Not sure there had even been an Art’s evening out yet. I think those came later. Maybe he knew I’d owned a nice new “67 back in my bachelor Navy jet-jockey days. That did not make me an expert, but I was kind of “honored” that he wanted my advice.
We flew. Paul paid.
The ‘Vette was a ragtop, red; and a mechanical question mark. Right off the bat, we learned that the A/C didn’t work. And as it turned out that wasn’t all. I know I said that he’d better have a hefty reserve fund available, because “Miss Vette” was going to need it.
The car got about Eight MPG on the way home.
We stopped in Stateline to throw some bucks away and spent the rest of the trip just indulging in guy talk, some of it personal, some of it just “guy talk”.
One of the most significant bonding experiences I’ve ever had!


MR Salyers taught me how to play the flute when I was in the 6th grade. He and Beth taught all of us about hard work, perseverance, integrity and what it means to be a band, color guard and winter guard family. I am who I am today because of the things they taught me in my childhood. He will be missed but never forgotten. He lives in the hearts of everyone he touched and his legacy will live on.  Hugs and prayers for Beth, his family and all his students.

Beth, I am so very sorry. You and Paul are dear friends. I’m going to miss him. So many happy memories from years past.  I wish I could be there with you all to remember and celebrate his life and legacy. Take care. R

Thank you for an amazing 4 years at Ramona. You were a wonderful teacher.  Thank you for so many amazing opportunities. You will be dearly missed. Your passion for music and helping students learn will always stand out.

My favorite memory is Paul's goofy laugh.  He brought a lot of joy to many students over the years.  He will be missed.

I met Paul when I started teaching theater at Ramona High School, and fourteen years later I am so thankful for such a terrific, funny, wacky, totally devoted friend. He could make me laugh with one of his corny jokes, or he'd listen to my woes, but always with a loyalty and good humor that made him a very important part of our lives. Trey and I miss him every day and can't wait to hear that perfect jazz band of his in the sky-no wrong notes! We love you, Paul, and Beth we love you too (and London...and Daisy).

What a sad day for Miller students past and present two out of my four children had the pleasure of having  Mr Salyers for piano.He was always so kind and encouraging he will definitely be missed by many. Thinking of you all during this difficult time. Julie Rogers  and Family 

My son has had Mr. Salyers as his band director last year and this current year. He has always looked up to him and aspires to be a director because of Mr. Salyers love for music and the kids. He has touched more hearts than he could imagine with the many students and friends he has had! I thought I'd share this picture of the band performing at Knott's Berry Farm just a few weeks ago. Our love, prayers, and sympathy go out to the wonderful family who are morning the loss of such a wonderful man. 

Paul was an incredible friend to many and I am so blessed I was able to know him, work with him and call him my friend. I will miss him stopping by my desk almost daily to say hello or seeing him in the staff lounge at lunch. I will miss the huge smile he had on his face every time he talked about his students. What a joy and honor it was for him to be their band teacher as he told me many times.!! My prayers are with his wonderful wife, Beth, and the rest of his family during this very difficult time.  You are missed and will NEVER be forgotten, Paul!

So very sorry to hear of Paul's  passing. I knew him from high school, and he was always a very nice person.  He had such a passion for his music and for life. I am glad to have been able to follow him on Facebook for some years and felt how that passion grew.  Prayers for his family.

I met Paul in High School, my memory is someone who always laughed and kind to all.

Paul was such a wonderful teacher and mentor to all of us, you and he both share a lasting legacy for the impact you’ve made on thousands of lives of students over the years including myself. Beth, my most sincere condolences for the loss of your best friend, partner, husband and confidante. Paul was such an inspiration to me, and I always held him in a special place in my heart. Although I played the drums at Waukomis, I remember when he let me waste time attempting to learn the french horn, just because. I failed miserably, but he was positive and supportive nonetheless. He inspired my love of music but, more importantly, he gave me the space and the confidence to feel empowered as an individual to see the world quite differently than those around me. I have no doubt that he played a key role in shaping the adult that I would become. He will be so sorely missed, not only by those who knew and loved him, but also by those who never had the opportunity to know him. It is through us, his former students and his friends and family, that they will still know him. Through stories of his kindness, his fearlessness, and his compassion. He will forever be remembered, through music and memories.

I was shocked to hear of Paul's passing.
He was a great guy and good friend since we were in 1st Grade.
Though geography kept us from seeing each other much through the years, when he was in town and we got together it was just like he'd never been gone.
My condolences to his family.
