Ruby Mae Binns was born on May 11, 1919 in Limon, Costa Rica, to parents Marie Ellen and Reginald Binns.
She grew up in Siquirres, Limon, Costa Rica, and was the oldest of six children. Siblings included sisters Margarita, Clara, Patricia (who has passed away), Mercedes (Lil) and brother, Reginald (known as Naldo).
Ruby met the love of her life Ernesto Charles Davis, who worked together with her father at the United Fruit Company. They fell in love and married on February 22, 1944. They were blessed with three children: Shrudie, Ernesto and Grace. Additional blessings came in grandchildren, Karla, Carlos (who passed away in 2001), Linda Ivette, Mike and one great-granddaughter, Stephanie.
Ruby made grand contributions in the medical field as a nurse, first in Costa Rica and then in Pennsylvania and Los Angeles in the United States. She enjoyed mostly working prenatal and pediatrics.
Ruby was also well known for her incredible skills in making wedding cakes, embroidering/sewing wedding gowns, painting on cloth and gardening.
Sadly, after 27 years of marriage, Ruby lost her husband and shortly afterwards retired from the White Memorial Medical Center after 21 years of service in the Los Angeles Basin. She moved to Norwalk, California and then to Loma Linda, where she lived her last years and was cared for by the youngest daughter, Grace, until her passing away on Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Redlands Community Hospital.
