Rufus Kevin Lacey, age 53 of Colton, California, went home to be with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday morning May 20, 2024, at 4:59 am at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center of Colton California. Rufus was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in mid-July of 2023 and shortly after that it metastasized to stage 4, while he was undergoing his cancer treatment.
Rufus was born in San Bernardino California at San Bernardino Community Hospital on December 12, 1970. As Rufus grew up, he preferred to be called Kevin because most people knew him from Kevin Lacey, Big Kev, and Baby Rufus. Kevin spent most of his life in San Bernardino California. He attended school at Del Rosa Elementary school, junior high at Frisbee Junior high school of Rialto, Serrano Junior high school in Highland and graduated from San Gorgonio High School of San Bernardino in 1990. He attended college at San Bernardino Valley College for a short while as well. Later, he became a Manager for Walgreens stores for many years in Northern and Southern California locations. He also operated Lacey’s Handy Man Business, and he did furniture delivery work as well in his later years.
Soon after high school he met his wife Roberta Madrid at Arby’s restaurant of San Bernardino. They got married on November 7, 1992. He became the father of her two oldest sons and had three more children with her, and during their marriage they cared for three additional children. Kevin was a true dad to them all. Kevin was a resident of San Bernardino, Sacramento, Beaumont, and Hemet California. Unfortunately, despite life’s challenges his wife and he went their separate ways, after many years of marriage. Although they have remained friends.
During the final 10 years of his life, Kevin met his life partner Loni Mae Jones-Lacey. They lived in San Bernardino and then moved to Apple Valley, California. Soon as Kevin was diagnosed with his cancer in July of 2023, he moved in with his loving brother Marlon Lacey of Colton California. While living with Marlon, Kevin repented and gave his life back to the Lord, prior to going home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Kevin is now united with his dad Rufus Lee Lacey Sr, stepfather John Neal Moore, son Daniel Lacey, and sister-in-law Susana Lacey who preceded him in death. He leaves behind his loving mother Karen Darby-Husted, stepfather Jack Husted, older sisters Nancy Belser and Dorothy Lacey, twin Brothers Mario Lacey, Marlon Lacey, ex-wife Roberta Lacey, and their children Calvin Lacey, Andrew Lacey, Rufus Kevin Lacey Jr., Rebekah Lacey, Ruben Lacey, Joseph Lacey, and Raymond Lacey.
