Dr. Thomas Baker Day

Born in Washington, DC, and raised in Harlem, New York, Dr. Day was the only child of Dr. Thomas Linwood Day and Goldie Baker Day. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Inspired by a proud family legacy, Dr. Day followed in the footsteps of his father, earning a Doctor of Medicine degree from Howard University College of Medicine in 1972 and completed his dermatology residency under the mentorship of Dr. Harold Minus.

In 1976, he married Donna Newman Day and established his dermatology practice in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Day went on to achieve board certification in dermatology in 1980. A pioneer in the treatment of skin conditions affecting Black Americans, he remained dedicated to medical dermatology and cared for generations of families with compassion and expertise for nearly five decades.

Dr. Day was a lifelong learner who loved reading newspapers and journals and engaging in spirited discussions on politics and economics. He also had a passion for sports, particularly the Washington Wizards and Baltimore Ravens, and had a deep appreciation for jazz music.

Dr. Day is survived by his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Donna Newman Day; his children: Natalie Day Freeman (Jeff) of Manalapan, New Jersey; Tonya Day Registre (Jerel) of Fulton, Maryland; and Thomas Newman Day (Amber) of Laurel, Maryland; and five cherished grandchildren: Jeffrey Day Freeman, Jorden Day Freeman, Mark Pascal Registre, Erin Donna Registre, and Thomas Maverick Day (VIII); cousins: Robin Jones Garcia (Dr. Raul A. Garcia) of New York City; Dr. Lance Wallace (Kimberly) of Frankfort, Illinois; Linwood Wallace of Chicago, Illinois; Melvin Baker (Susan) of Winterville, North Carolina; and John Baker, III (Phyllis) of Farmville, Virginia; extended family member Evelyn Danclair of Columbia, Maryland; sister-in-law Peggy Newman Summerville of Fayetteville, North Carolina; brother-in-law Kermit W. Newman, Jr. of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and a host of friends, colleagues, and grateful patients whose lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 10:00am at Christ Episcopal Church located at 6800 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, Maryland 21045.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Dr. Thomas B. Day to the Howard University College of Medicine, Department of Dermatology.
