Edward Allan Post, age 89, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, August 4, 2022 in Columbia, MD, surrounded by his daughters. Born in Mineola, NY, he was the son of Edward and Lillian Post.
Ed began his career as a metallurgist in research and development at Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point, MD in 1955. In 1956, he entered the US Navy and was recruited to work at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. Ed married Carmen E. Gallo of Brooklyn, NY in June of 1957, and they ultimately settled in Rosedale, MD to raise their family. After leaving active service, he returned to his work at Bethlehem Steel and retired in 1982. In 2014, Ed and Carmen moved to Columbia, MD to live with their eldest daughter.
Ed is survived by their three daughters, Kathleen A. Agee, Janet L. Myers (Wm. Craig), and Linda E. Post, as well as his grandson Matthew A. Myers, sister-in-law Norma I. Peña, and nephew Robert J. Peña. Preceding him in death was his wife Carmen, who passed away after 61 years of marriage in July of 2018, his son-in-law Richard L. Agee, who passed in 2003, his sister Marilyn J. Post, who passed in 2005, and Lt. Colonel George L. Alvarez, whom he considered his brother and passed in 2021.
Ed dearly loved his family and friends, was an avid fisherman and vegetable gardener in his younger years, and was a lifelong devotee of classical music and good tapas. He had an amazing memory, a wonderful sense of humor, and was an absolute master of Pinochle.
The immediate family will hold a private memorial service in the coming months. Those wishing to do so might consider a contribution in his memory to Gilchrist Hospice, 11311 McCormick Rd., Ste. 350, Hunt Valley, MD 21031. We are sincerely grateful to the nurses and providers of Gilchrist for their tremendous support and care in his final days.
