

Rev. Harry A. Ledgard was born to Margaret and Clarence Ledgard in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. Harry was a history buff in his early years including authoring several historical pieces regarding his local area. He did his undergraduate study at Dickinson University in Carlisle and his graduate work at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC. Harry met Pauline (Polly) Louise Harrison, the one true love of his life, while working as a camp counselor at camp Manidokan, a United Methodist youth camp in Harper’s Ferry, WV. Harry and Polly were married soon after and remained married for 34 years until Polly passed away in 1999. He is survived by daughter Christina, son Philip and his wife Nikki, and three grandchildren, Ciara, Courtney, and Brandon. His family was near and dear to his heart and spending time with family was one of his favorite past times.
Harry’s calling was his ministry for the United Methodist Church spanning four decades for the Baltimore Washington Conference, retiring in 1998. Harry’s professional life was distinguished by his focus on the study and understanding of the true meaning of biblical scripture as well as spreading his message of hope, love, and unity through his ministry. Harry served several churches in Pennsylvania early in his career and numerous churches in the Baltimore area. Other locations include Scaggsville, Brunswick, Walkersville, Annapolis, Arden WV, and Havre De Grace. His most notable appointment was in Walkersville, MD where he and his wife Polly will eternally rest in peace. Harry made several journeys to the holy land to further his education and understanding of the life of Jesus Christ. He worked to support racial & social justice causes throughout his life as he stood for inclusiveness, unity, and respect for all.
A service to celebrate Harry’s life will be held at 11am on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Glen Mar United Methodist Church at 4701 New Cut Rd., Ellicott City, MD. A time to visit and share memories with the family will be held on the same day at Witzke Funeral Homes, Inc., at 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD from 2 to 4pm and from 6 to 8pm.
