
Joseph (“Joe”) John Lasek II, 87, of Columbia, Maryland, passed peacefully on March 20, 2024. He is survived by son Jay (Jana), daughters Hilary (Steven) and Jennifer (Brian), grandchildren James (Tory), Robert (Brooke), Larson (Ryan), Zach, Isabella, Taylor, and Aidon, and four great-grandchildren.
Joe was born in suburban Milwaukee Wisconsin, and grew up there with his parents and his older sister, Ruth. He attended Marquette University, graduated with a degree in civil engineering, and served in the U.S. Air Force including postings in France. He worked 38 years for the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads/Federal Highway Administration until retiring in 1997.
Joe married Maureen Brigden in 1960, and they lived in several locations over the years with their last move being to Columbia, Maryland, in 1974. He enjoyed golf, was active as a Bridge player, and with his church community at St. John the Evangelist in Columbia. Joe was passionate about sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and when supporting his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4pm to 7pm on Monday, March 25 at Witzke Funeral Home at Twin Knolls Rd, Columbia, Maryland. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at The Wilde Lake Interfaith Center, 10431 Twin Rivers Rd, Columbia, Maryland, on Tuesday, March 26 at 12 noon. The service will be viewable online at https://sjcolumbia.org/streaming
