Aunt Lois was my favorite Aunt! As a child I thought Aunt Lois was kind, patient, pretty, interesting, and wonderful to be around. As the years went by and I grew up, I had an even greater appreciation for her. She was always gracious and the epitome of class in every way. She was an inspiration to us all to be a better person, put others before ourselves, and to keep going when life's problems intervened. She had a quiet, serene confidence that always carried her through. Aunt Lois was such a welcoming person and always welcomed me, my brother, and my husband into her home. I will always cherish the years I spent staying at her house as a child with my grandmother as well as years later visiting her and Curtis in Arlington, VA and Berkley Springs, WV. It was always fun to be around them and their beloved collies. Christmas was an especially nice time at their house. When Aunt Lois moved to Columbia, MD, my brother and I had many good times bringing her lunch and eating lunch with her. My husband Mark liked Aunt Lois immediately when he first met her and also enjoyed visiting with her and Curtis in Arlington. I'll miss my many long phone conversations with her, reminiscing about the old days and my late mother and grandmothers who all thought the world of Aunt Lois. It speaks volumes about Aunt Lois that she remianed close to her former mother-in-law and former sister-in-law until their deaths. My late grandmothers used to say that Aunt Lois looked like a young Queen Elizabeth when she was younger, except that Aunt Lois was prettier. It's fitting that Aunt lois would resemble royalty. My late father liked Aunt Lois a lot and used to say, "She really has a lot of class". She was always kind and welcoming to my brother Andrew and I and I'll always appreciate that. Aunt Lois was also a very interesting woman and I was always learning things about her that I never new, such as her stories of her childhood in North Carolina, high school in Washington, DC, her college years in North Carolina, her camping trips to the Adirondacks, trips to the Bahamas, and other places, her government work, her free-lance writing, and her life in the country with Curtis and how they planted all the trees when they they first bought the property for a weekend home. One of my fondest memories of Aunt Lois was on her wedding day to Curtis and how happy she was. Being her attendant in her wedding was very special to me. Aunt Lois always kept a lovely home, but it was not a house or material things that mattered to her, it was people! She lovingly talked about her late parents as well as her sons, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters. She considered herself to be very lucky to have them all and we were all lucky to have her. Of all the qualities Aunt Lois had going for her, the most important was her faith. She was a true Christian and therefore I'm not sad for Aunt Lois because I know where she is. I'm sad for all of us because we don't have her anymore. I'll miss her the rest of my life but we'll all have our wonderful memories of her and the hope and faith that some day we will see her again. Lois was a good friend and neighbor. My mother and I will miss visiting her and talking about dogs and life. Our deepest condolences to the Groves family, she will be missed.

Lois was a very kind person and a wonderful sister-in-law . I enjoyed spending time talking with her and visiting with her. when she moved to Columbia I would take her lunch sometimes on Sunday and we would sit and chat about our families.
I will certainly miss her.
