Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Lenoir Woods Health Care Center in the Living Room of the Eastwood Neighborhood, 3710 Lenoir St, Columbia, MO. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 am with Chaplain Jerry Riggert officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery in Ashdown, AR.
Alberta was born on August 14, 1914 in Ashdown, AR the daughter of Samuel and Gertrude (Eichhold) Meyer who preceded her in death. She was of the Jewish faith. During her lifetime, she sought to serve others as a public servant and was especially interested in women’s roles in the workplace. She served as a supervisor for the Social Security office in Jefferson City, helping to promote women in roles of leadership. She was the first woman named to the Missouri Commission on Highways where she continued to serve the people the people of Missouri in the Highway Department. She was the first permanent Chairman of the Missouri State Commission on the Status of Women. In addition to her life of public service, she was very active in the Federation of Business and Professional Women on the local, regional and state levels. She served in many roles, including that of president of the local and regional organization. In 1968, she was named their “Woman of the year.” Alberta was active in Democratic politics supporting candidates on local, state and national levels. At the age of 11 she attended her first Cardinal’s baseball game and remained a devoted Cardinal fan throughout her lifetime.
Survivors include: two nieces, Mary Ann Carson and Margie Kenny and a special friend, Lena Long of Ashland, MO. She was also preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
