

Harry C. Winfrey, 89, a life-long resident of Boone County, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Friends and family may gather Monday, December 1, 2025, from 11:30am-1:30pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia, MO. A private graveside service with Military Honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Harry was born July 12, 1936, in Ashland, MO to Philip and Neta Mae Winfrey. In 1954, he graduated from Hickman High School and four years later in 1958, he graduated from MIZZOU with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He joined the US Army and served several years before earning an honorable discharge as Captain on January 24, 1969. He owned Winfrey CPA in Columbia for many decades, retiring just two years ago. His success in Columbia allowed him to open a second branch in Moberly. He loved his family, work, his colleagues, all the math, and the clients he worked with. He married Betty (Petty) Winfrey on June 25, 1994, and they spent 32 wonderful years together. Harry enjoyed spending time with his family, working on his farm with his horses, cattle, and dog Molly. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Winfrey; a step-son, Chad A. Pitts of Columbia; a sister, Phyllis (Richard) Buckman of Washington, MO, grandsons, Cole Pitts and Scott G. Winfrey; a nephew, Rick Buckman and his children Julia, Andrew, and Lydia; and his favorite dog, Molly. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Winfrey, and his parents.
