

Marilyn was born and raised on a farm in Boonville, Missouri on November 23, 1949 to Earl and Earlene (Felten) McKinzie. She attended Saints Peter & Paul Catholic School.
She married her beloved husband, Billy Gene Lusby, September 4, 1971 and he survives. She is also survived by daughter Natalie and Tony Wayne and grandsons Justin, Nathan and Noah. Other survivors include brother Jimmie Earl and Mary McKinzie, brother-in-law David and Joy Lusby, Mindy and Eric Barnes, Donnie Lusby and mother-in-law Betty Frakes, along with many nieces and nephews. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Earlene McKinize and father-in-law Henry Lusby.
Marilyn earned her Bachelor’s degree in education at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. She continued her education and earned her Master’s degree at William Woods University. She taught elementary education in Columbia, Missouri.
Teaching was her passion. She never met a child she didn't love. While raising her daughter, she substitute taught for Columbia Catholic School and then later taught for Columbia Public Schools full time. She retired from Fairview Elementary School in 2017. In her free time, she loved spending time with family, especially her grandsons. When she wasn't teaching or spoiling her grandsons, you could find her gardening, reading a good book or doing a crossword puzzle. She will be sorely missed by her family and lifelong friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, Missouri. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM. Entombment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
