O. Elaine Gillespie

Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 11:00am at Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Loran McCrary officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Elaine was born on March 17, 1925, in Bethany, Missouri to Jesse and Maude Sanders. She married Glenn A Gillespie on July 1, 1944 in Santa Ana, California. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2007.

Elaine worked for Columbia Public Schools, as a Realtor for many years, and retired from the Columbia Police Department. She was an avid Bridge player and faithful member of Bethany and Calvary Baptist Churches. She was a devoted and faithful wife, mother, and grandmother, friend—and wonderful cook.

She is survived by her children: Richard (Karen) Gillespie of Warrensburg, MO, Daniel (Elaine) Gillespie of Columbia, MO, and Pat (Jay) Byington of St. Charles, MO. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Margaret Gillespie of Corpus Christie, TX, Rick (Karis) Gillespie of St. Charles, MO, Drew (Nicci) Gillespie of Columbia, MO, Jason Gillespie of Dallas, TX, Joel (Courtney) Byington of Dallas, TX and Greg(Julie) Byington of St. Louis, MO, along with 10 great-grandchildren- Becca, Kaylie and Lily Byington, Madison and Elijah Gillespie, Gavin Gillespie, Marin and Cole Gillespie and Savannah and Thomas Byington. Her sister, Yvonna Arnold of Ridgeway, MO survives. Her brother, Russell Sanders, preceded her in death.
