Wanda was born in Rocheport, MO on January 18, 1925 to George Stanley and Rowena (Crane) Welbern. Having lived through the depression, she was a frugal daughter of hardworking parents who impressed upon her the importance of a job well done and always striving for excellence. To paraphrase a famous football coach, her priorities were “God, Family and the Mizzou Tigers, in that order”! She graduated from Rocheport High School and attended Business school in Sedalia, MO. She started her business career in Kansas City, MO in 1945. She was an executive secretary for many years working at Berry World Travel, Shook, Hardy & Bacon Law firm, and First National Bank. She married F. Edmond Bysfield in April, 1947. They have two children, Evelyn and George Alan. She retired from the business world in the early seventies and started devoting her time to volunteer activities with the Silver Haired City Council, McMurray Methodist Church Sewing circle, Gracemor Reading Buddies, and NKC Hospital auxiliary. She was an avid bowler who participated in leagues until she was 92. When the first of her seven grandchildren arrived in November, 1978 she became a devoted grandmother who loved to collect photos and document their lives through pictures of their times together. The grandchildren would spend countless hours looking through the memories whenever they would visit and she presented each of them with their own memory book at the time of their wedding. She also was an avid reader who was introduced to a Kindle in recent years by her stepdaughter, Ann, so she could read library e-books. She had run out of large-print versions to read in her local libraries!
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (Michael) Peters; son, George Alan (Paula) Bysfield; stepchildren, Ann Sudduth and Frank E.(Donna) Bysfield; grandchildren, Andrea (Jason) Gilbertson, Christa (Ryan) Sugrue, Matt (April) Bysfield, Amy (Joshua) Post, Charlie Bysfield, and Cathryn Adams; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death include her husband, F. Edmond Bysfield, who suffered strokes in 1994 and was cared for by Wanda at home for almost 2 years until his death in 1996; her parents, George Stanley and Rowena (Crane) Welbern; her brothers, L.S. “Bub” (Joyce) Welbern and Leon (Stella) Welbern; stepdaughter, Eleanor (Jack) Kendrick; grandson, Mark Bysfield; and great-grandchildren, Kelan Sugrue and Gabriel and Michaela Bysfield.
