On Monday, February 2, 2026, Calep Beard, of Foxworth, Mississippi, went to his heavenly home at the age of 94. He was born in Marion County to Cleveland and Sally Beard where he was raised. After marrying Hilda Dunaway in 1951, the two began their life together moving to Nachez, Mississippi where Calep worked with the Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company. In 1965, they came home to Marion County and he began farming cattle and timber and was also active in buying and selling oil and mineral leases. Calep was a faithful man of God who served his Lord and his community through his membership with Mount Sinai Church of God. Known for his work ethic and high standards, he valued honesty and expected others to be honest as well. He was a hard worker, he was strong willed, and also, very generous with his time and resources. Calep was a quiet man of few words, but when he said something, you had better listen because it was important. He was devoted to his family and will be remembered for the depth of love that he shared with each and everyone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Karen Beard and Sandy Beard; two sisters, Trilba Elmore and Keith Prine; and a brother, James Henry Beard. Calep is survived by his wife of 74 years, Hilda Beard; a daughter, Beth McKenzie (Wade); two granddaughters, Paige Bullock (Johnny) and Brett McDaniel (Drew); and five great-grandchildren, Carson Dyess, Caleb Dyess, Carter Dyess (Lauren), Max McDaniel, and Mills McDaniel; and a great-granddaughter, Kamilla Pittman.
There will be a funeral service to celebrate Calep's life at Colonial Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 2:00pm. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00pm until service time. The funeral will be officiated by Reverend Raymond Aven. Calep will be laid to rest in Mount Sinai Church of God Cemetery.
