Dorothy “Dot” Stogner went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at her residence in Columbia, MS. She was 90 years old. Dot was born in Hathorn, MS and was primarily a homemaker. She was a gifted musician and taught piano, accordion, and guitar lessons from her home for many years. Dot was a member of the Church of God and a woman of strong faith and gave her talent to the church often singing and leading worship in revival meetings and local church services. She was an accomplished songwriter and singer recording many songs and albums including one produced at Sun Records in Memphis, TN. In addition to her music, Dot was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and wife who instilled Christian values to her family she loved dearly. She always had charisma that drew people to her and a smile that would brighten any room.
Mrs. Stogner was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Stogner; parents, Neade Brady and Bessie Sudduth Brady; sisters, Elvera Rogers, and Donna Naomi Stoll; brothers, Neade Brady, Jr., and Thomas Brady; a grandson, Chris Peavy; and a great-grandson, Braxton Lott. Her memory will be forever cherished by her daughter, Deborah Peavy of Hattiesburg, MS; her son, David Peavy (Jan) of Hattiesburg; a brother, Charles W. Brady (Brenda) of Columbia; five grandchildren, Doneada Stevens, Bridgette Lott, Mike Dykes (Rhonda), Angie Peavy, and Sarah Peavy; and a host of great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia where family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time. Reverend A. D. Gammill will officiate and burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery assisted by Gregg Rayburn, Pete Lott, Mike Dykes, Alex Miller, Jeff Fuller, and Robert Patterson as pallbearers.
