Jerry Glyn "Red" Rutland

On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Jerry Glyn "Red" Rutland, of Oakvale, Mississippi, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 73. He was born in Marion County to Mason and Francis Rutland and has been a resident of Oakvale for the past 26 years. Jerry worked his entire career as a diesel mechanic and retired from T L Wallace Construction. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed good food and loved hosting gatherings and cookouts for his family and friends on the weekends. Jerry was a man of faith who served his Lord and his community through his membership with Oakvale Baptist Church. If you knew him, you would know the most positive person anyone could meet. Jerry will be remembered for his many generous and selfless acts of kindness.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his lifelong love, Marilyn Rutland. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Melanie Slocum (L.J.); his son, Jeremy Rutland (Dianna); a step-son, Nicholas Lee (Jessica); two brothers, Billy Rutland and Tommy Rutland (Charmaine); four grandchildren, Brooklyn Slocum, Kaden Rutland, Addisyn Slocum, and Hollyn Slocum; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is being planned for Jerry in the near future. The arrangements will be posted as soon as the service times are confirmed.
