John Allen Chance, of Foxworth, Mississippi, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the age of 50. He was born in Columbia to James and Patricia Ann Chance and has remained a lifelong resident of Marion County. Allen was a correctional officer and work at the Marion County Correctional Facility. He also was a firefighter and has worked in fire service for 35 years. Currently, Allen was serving with the South West Marion Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, driving back roads, and being with family, especially at the beach or in the mountains. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help anyone in need. Allen will be remembered for his big heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Chance, Jr.; his brother, James A. Chance, III; and a grandson, Colt Gunner Madison. Allen is survived by his wife, Samantha Chance; two daughters, Tia Blount (James) and Jordan Dixon (Justin Madison); two sons, Donovan Chance and Wilson Dixon; his mother, Patricia Ann Chance; and three grandchildren, Nevaeh Blount, Zachery Blount, and one on the way, Joseph Blount.
There will be a visitation for Allen at Colonial Funeral Home on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Chaplain Mitchell Virgil, will be at 1:30pm in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, December 11, 2022. Allen will be laid to rest in Kokomo Community Cemetery, assisted by Donovan Chance, Calvin Williamson, Jason Ard, Dustin Ard, Justin Madison, Scott Morgan, Donovan Sartin, and James Kemp serving as pallbearers. Charles Summer, Richard Hilton, and all firefighters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
