Mavis Thornhill, of Foxworth, Mississippi, passed from this life into God’s presence on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at the age of 83. She was born in Tylertown, Mississippi to J.P. and Allie Roberts and has been a lifelong resident of Marion County. Mavis was retired from the Marion County School System. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and her vegetable gardens. She loved animals and cared for any that came her way. Mavis was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family gatherings. She deeply loved all of her family, but her world revolved around her children and grandchildren. Mavis was a woman of faith and served her community and her Lord through her membership with West Columbia Church of God where she was the pianist for many years. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary Roberts and Dewey Roberts; a son, Michael Lane Thornhill; and her beloved husband of 66 years, Wyndol L. Thornhill. Mavis is survived by her children, Kenneth Lenn Thornhill (Glenda), Lisa Lavon Hall (Berkley), and Sandra Lea Anthony (Robbie); sister, Lynn Sanders (Joey); eight grandchildren, Tessa Forbes (Andrew), Tara Pierce (Grant), Anthony Morgan (Heather), Adrianne Darr (Josh), Drew Stringer (Mandy), Lee Stringer (Stacey), Erika Thornhill, and Lane Thornhill; and 21 great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation for Mavis at Colonial Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Lane Turnage, will be in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11:00am. Burial will follow in the Rodney Thornhill Family Cemetery assisted by Braxton Powell, Drew Stringer, Lee Stringer, Anthony Morgan, Josh Darr, Andrew Forbes, Lane Thornhill, and Payton Morgan serving as pallbearers.
