Merida Ralph “Nuppy” Hawthorn, age 74, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023 at his residence in Lumberton, MS. Ralph was a graduate of Hub High School where he excelled in basketball, track, and field events. In adulthood, he owned several successful businesses including Ralph’s Backhoe and Dirt Hauling. He was an avid collector of coins and stamps and loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Clear Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Hawthorn was preceded in death by his grandparents who reared him, Merida Pittman and Ethel Pittman; his biological father, Harry Fillmore; adopted father, Leon P. Hawthorn; and mother, Juanita Pittman Hawthorn; sister, Joann Armour; and brother, Mark Hawthorn. His memory will be forever cherished by his wife of 53 years, Reba Hawthorn; sons, Matthew Hawthorn and wife, Kristy, and Josh Hawthorn and wife, Alyson; brothers, Wayne Hawthorn and wife, Karen, and Brian Hawthorn; and his three grandchildren, Kalyn Hawthorn, Kennis Hawthorn, and Anne Marie Hawthorn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Clear Creek Baptist Church where family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time. Reverend Scotty Chabert will officiate and burial will follow at Clear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery assisted by Michael Hawthorn, Terry Rowell, Don Davis, Jeff Rayborn, Tommy Rankin, and J. R. Lee as pallbearers.
