Monica "Monk" Lowery

Monica “Monk” Lowery, age 50, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. She was a lifelong resident of Columbia, MS and worked as a cashier for various businesses, including locally at Keith’s Superstores.

Monk treasured her time spent with her family and will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Monk was preceded in death by her parents, James "Buddy" Lowery and Bobbie Nell Sanford Lowery.

She is survived by her son, DaeShawn Lowery (Sarah); sisters, Sandy Sartin, and Rita Lowery; brothers, Ricky Lowery, and Jeff Lowery; a niece, Karlie; and her former companion, Moses Oatis.

Services for Monk will be held privately.
