Mrs. Sharon McCown Bruner, a native of Columbia, Mississippi, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was the only child of Foy and Katherine Dale McCown who was born on December 20, 1947, in Colombia, South America. She was resident of Brandon, Mississippi at the time of her passing where she lived with her son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren. A longtime resident of Columbia, Sharon graduated from Columbia High School and the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in English. She moved to New Orleans where she gave birth to her only son, Jay in November of 1969. Sharon was a schoolteacher in Jefferson Parish, where she taught Spanish for 30 years. After Hurricane Katrina, Sharon moved to Brandon, Mississippi to reside with her son. After her retirement, she enjoyed many hobbies and activities up until her passing. Some of those included board games, cooking, traveling, crossword puzzles, reading, and spending time with her family. She was blessed to have been able to be involved in the lives of her 3 grandchildren. She was dearly loved by them all, and the best “Grams” to everyone.
Sharon was truly an amazing woman who will be missed by many. Sharon was a true example of selfless love, kindness, and she was an inspiration to many around her. She will be deeply missed by her family, and those who had the privilege to know her.
She was preceded in death by her mother Katherine McCown, and father Foy McCown. Sharon is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Claudia Hebert Bruner of Brandon, MS; and her three grandchildren, Katherine, Meghan, and Madison Bruner.
There will be a funeral service for Sharon at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 2:00pm. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00pm until service time. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia.
