Charles Archie Gedney Sr.

COLUMBIA - Mass of Christian Burial for Charles A. Gedney Sr., 78, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, officiated by Father Sandy McDonald. Final commendations and Farewell Prayers will be held at noon in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2016, followed by a Vigil Prayer Service beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, Hard Scrabble Road. Mr. Gedney passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016. Born in Mason, Michigan, he was the only son of the late Archie Gedney and Nellie Close Gedney. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Gedney retired in 1980 from the United States Army where he was a Criminal Investigator. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Francoise “Fran” Gedney; daughter, Christine G. Dukes (Jason); son, Charles A. Gedney Jr.; grandchildren, Nicholas Dukes, Alexander Dukes, Timothy Gedney, and Ashley Daniels. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Ross and Joyce Woodard. Memorials may be made to Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, SC 29212.
